The research and innovation are considered to be the determined factors of the modern society development. For the Republic of Moldova, creation of a knowledge based economy has to become the most important issue in the development paradigm, at least for short and medium terms. In the context of election campaign launching, we recommend a succint vision upon the sphere of science in the process of economical development, the fact that may strengthen political parties’ platforms on the respective segment.

It is well known the fact that countries without mineral and energetic resources, and enough agricultural areas, have succeed in the field economy development and social sphere thanks to scientific achievements, elaboration and implementation of the innovational technologies.
Taking into account the fact that our country, besides the deficiency of natural resources deposits, confront a lot of difficulties in the industrial, agricultural development, and social infrastructure, and there do not exist an alternative for a sustainable development. For the Republic of Moldova prosperous future imperative denote the necessity of a fortified development of science, implementation of a technological culture and training the society’s contractor spirit, based on efficiency and quick conversion.

In this context, the development of human potential is the only way that may contribute to the development of the society in general, and of the economy particularly. More than that, without a development of the whole society, neither economical development can be accomplished, but performance can not be reached without principles based on values promotion.

The development of human potential requires the assurance of both: education and research. These two elements are interconnected. The research needs society’s competence for understanding and implementing the acquired results, while the society, in general, need research for self-development, inclusive economically.

It is necessary to mention that in present, regarding both, education and research, we need important changes in order to rejoin to modern world requirements.

In the field of research the Academy of Sciences, till present, centered upon the following:

• To stop the migration of high quality specialists ;
• To re-establish research infrastructure;
• To attract young people in the field of research;
• To increase the research impact upon the society in general, and of the economy particularly;
• To strengthen research and innovation key factors through foundation of the University of Fundamental Sciences, Lyceum for gifted children, Agency for Innovation and Technological Transfer, all of them being framed in the scientific cluster UniveScience and representing a successful case;
• To create an innovation infrastructure by setting up two scientific-technological parks and an innovation incubator, as well to deliver research results to business sphere through technological transfer projects.

The performed actions enabled the creation of a program in the field of research that can make cope with day’s challenges. Concomitantly, there are a lot of problems which needs a special attention and a systematic approach. Thus, in the research field the efforts should be concentrated on the following:

• Strengthening of the scientific and technical-material potential, as an example serves the European Union experience regarding organization of the research within some hard-set programs (7th Framework Program). The attempt of science dispersal into academic and collegiate represents a serious mistake, which will have negative consequences on the development of the country. The Republic of Moldova have approximately 3000 researchers, it is a challenge even the position of the Moldovan research in the international scientific medium, the specific problems of our country have to be analyzed and settled;
• Adjusting present system of the science and innovation sphere management to society’s requirements and to best practices, thus investments in the research field obtain already results;
• Orientating applicative research to requirements of the economy sector;
• Making innovational capacities as a major factor in the sustainable development of the country, that being a priority objective of the new state politics in the field of innovation;
• Increasing of the procurement volumes of the national innovational products, in order to grow up research and innovation activities;
• Qualification and continuous formation of the researchers for the important fields of development, education, science and economy;
• Internationalization of the research by integration into European Research Area and extension of the international scientific relations.

Science and innovation have to be directed to the settlement of the most important problems: economy development, health assistance, demographic, food, energetic and economic security, renewable and human resources development, prevention and diminution of natural disasters consequences, elaboration of polifunctional materials and of the new technologies, protection of the cultural –historical and natural patrimony.
